- Make a Thanksgiving menu with all of the recipes for the Thanksgiving meal in one place. Save it, and use it each year to make your shopping list.
- Turkey is a good buy, even cheaper than hamburger. Buy as large of a turkey as you can and freeze the leftovers for quick and easy meals.
- Homemade is almost always cheaper (and better tasting). However, time is always precious and scarce. Planning ahead will save you both time and money.
- If you want to learn about bulk cooking, two excellent books are Once-A-Month Cooking by Mimi Wilson and Mary Beth Laberborg, and Dinner’s In The Freezer by Jill Bond.
- Save that printer ink! Highlight only what you want to print with the mouse, click on “file”, click on “print”, and where it says page range click “selection” instead of printing the whole page.
- Putting a pinch of salt in milk will inhibit bacteria growth, making the milk stay fresh longer. It will not affect the taste.
- Have a well-worn pair of shoes that you love? Have them resoled instead of replacing them.
- Make your coffee at home! If you spend $3 a day on coffee, 5 times a week, you will spend $780 a year on coffee!
- Generics are good! Most are identical or almost identical to the name brand.
