Ways to Have More Money

Want to have more money? Remember it’s not how much you earn; it’s how much you keep. We all know financial goals are important, but sometimes it seems so difficult we just give up. Here are some simple steps to help you keep more:

  • Know what you spend. Most people tend to underestimate what they spend. Incidental and infrequent expenditures are usually forgotten. You don’t have to track it to the penny, but keep your checkbook balanced and check your credit card statement closely.

  • Planning helps you save money. If you know what you’re making for dinner, you’re more likely to have the ingredients on hand and less likely to eat out. If you know ahead of time you’re responsibly for cupcakes for your child’s class party, you could make them from scratch or a mix instead of buying them at the bakery.

  • Stores are designed to make you spend. Before you check out, take a good look at the items in your cart. Ask yourself “if someone offered me this item or the cash price of the item, would I take the cash?” If so, put the item back.

  • Drink more water! Not only is it good for you, it will save you money. Beverages make up a large portion of America ’s grocery bill. Cut back on non-nutritional drinks and your wallet and waistline will thank you.

  • Drive less. Organize your errands in a circle and don’t make special trips for just one item (again, planning saves you money.) Avoid the drive thru and idling your car. If you see the light up ahead is red, take your foot off the gas and coast to the light. Get the junk out of the trunk to reduce the weight and increase the mileage.
